The Bern Ethics Committee reviewed the study and approved it in January 2026. This confirms that the study meets the ethical requirements and may be conducted.
In June 2025, the Swiss Nationanal Science Foundation (SNSF) announced that it would fund the EMPASTONE study. The study is being funded under the IICT programme (‘Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials’). Of a total of 47 applications, 6 (12%) were approved.
